New Paltz, NY

I am in New Paltz, NY tonight. It is about 50 miles from New York City. We woke up at 6:00 a.m. today and were riding by 7a.m. I am starting to eat a ton. I had breakfast when I woke up. Lunch was at 9a.m. I ate a sandwich and Cliff bar around noon and then I stopped at a resturaunt around 1p.m. Then we ate dinner around 6p.m. These are not snacks I am eating, but entire meals, often consisting of two or three returns for more food. I know my hand will get a workout just shoveling all the food into my mouth.

It rained today and we took shelter in a train station along the Hudson River. Afterwards we were escorted across the bridge, by the Hudson Port Authority. I am sure traffic loved us.

Wednesday will be our first day off. I know some of us wish it was tomorrow. We rode over 50 miles today and were welcomed with a huge pot luck. We get to stay in dormitories tonight, which means we get real beds!

By the end of the week we will have cross over Niagra Falls and into Ontario. The scenery so far is beautiful rolling hill (which you really notice on a bike). We crossed over the Appalachain Trail today, which was pretty cool looking. Also for the Superman fans, we went past the Daily Planet newspaper. Superman must have been out saving the world, because I didn't see him around.

Have a wonderful Memorial Day!

Only 3974 Miles to Go

We rode about 36 miles yesterday. That was our shortest day of the entire trip. I started out the day with four flats! How does that happen? Well, I got a flat the day before (the first of our trip) and changed the tube without chnaging the tire. This is normal procedure. However, it took a few more chnages yesterday morning to figure out that I had a big tear in my tire that kept causing the tube to pop. Luckily, this all happened before we ever got started.

The group completed the first day in fine fashion. We had an amaziong spread of food waiting for us at the end of the day. We were in bed by 9PM; feeling exhausted from our short ride. Tomorrow we are heading into NY!

Starting Day!

I am starting my ride in only a few hours. I have met my group and we all have bonded well. We all rode to the ocean yesterday to dip our bikes in the ocean...a few people even went swimming. I got the first flat of our journey on the way back. I guess that means that I don't have to have another one for at least 4000 miles;)

Today I will be riding to Danbury, CT and next week I will spend most of my time riding through NY and then in Ontario. Are there any comments or questions you have for me?

Wish me luck!

Three Days to Go!

I have been hanging out with my sister in Cambridge, MA since Monday. Today is my last day to prepare for my trip across the country this summer. It has been raining for the third day straight in Cambridge. I did manage to go out for about two hours yesterday. When I got back I could not feel my fingers. I took a cold shower to warm me up and I was ready to go.

Since my last post, I traveled through KY and visited with my Aunt Karen in Louisville. The visit was short, but I will be back in August for a longer stay. I then traveled to Maryland to visit with a good friend for a couple of days. I ate lots of food and got in a nice bike ride. Riding in all these different cities and states has been awesome. While on the road I have way to much time to think. I figured out that I would travel through 24 states, 2 countries, and 1 district (D.C.) during the summer.

After Maryland, I went to Pittsburgh and stayed with some friends that I originally met in CO. I got to go to this incredible bar, that is a converted church, and smaple some brew. Once again I went on a bike ride. I found a washed out road and some great hills to climb. I decided that Pittsburgh is beautiful at this time of year. The days were cool and everything is green and growing.

Onward to New York City I traveled. I made my way through the Holland Tunnel and arrived at my buddy's place on Sunday. I parked my car and we went out to Carnegie for lunch. Saw a concert that night at the Ballery Ballroom and headed out the next day for Boston.

I had a great time in Boston with my sister, brother-in-law, and other family and friends that I got to see. I am out of time and must go. Will check back soon.

On My Way...

Well, I left CO last week! I had a party at the Fox Theater in Boulder. I soon left AL to see my Dad, sister, and brother-in-law. They are all doing great. The shaved-ice business is alive and kicking in AL. I worked this past thursday at a elementary school. This was my first experience making shaved ice. I caught on fast and still managed to have time to eat five of my own...I just love the stuff! I also managed to get in two bike rides on my new bike. I can't wait to get up north where it is cooler.

I am in Memphis right now and heading out tomorrow for Louisville, KY. I have been staying with my mom and eating all kinds of great food. By Monday afternoon I will be in Maryland visiting friends and family. After that it is on to Pittsburgh, PA for more visiting with some former CO residents. My Sunday I will be in Manhattan. I am going to see a concert with Medeski, Wood, and Ribot (Ribot is a guitarist...for those of you who were thinking that I forgot Martin). Then, on Monday I am heading for Boston, MA. I will get to see my other sister and brother-in-law and hopefully a couple of other friends from CO.

Somewhere in all this I will continue to bike and keep in shape. I am getting an another article written about me in the Profiler magazine out in CO. Hopefully I will get some additional donations raised for Habitat!
